3 Tips For Hitting Your Business & Lifestyle Goals During A Pandemic

April 27, 2020

Let's be honest, this is unprecedented! The time we're living in right now is unreal. Most people today have never had to figure out how to run a successful business, create incredible impact, and live their wildest dreams during a pandemic!

It almost feels like dreaming is no longer acceptable! Like we have to stay realistic and find reasons to justify why things have now become impossible but here's the thing. If you're here reading this it's because you're different.

You don't see the world like that. You know that although things are challenging right now there is a way to come out on top. You know that a challenge in life can actually work out to become stairs leading to your next level.

The way that I see this is if Bill Gates owned a small business and he was forced to close down due to the virus and he lost everything, had to start all over again, the whole nine. Would he still turn out successful? Lol, you know he would! This is not because he has a unique gift or he's highly intelligent (although he is smart). The reason why he would still turn out successful is because of the principles he knows.

Principles are basically universal truths that everything in life abides by. They are sometimes called things like laws or statues but the underlining definition is the same. There are principles for EVERYTHING you can think of this includes marriage, parenting, business, money, healthy living, and so on.

If you want to be successful in something the key is to identify the principles that result in success, apply them to your situation, and wah-lah! You will get the same result. This is why if you've been in the personal development circle for a while you will hear industry leaders and motivational speakers say "success leaves clues". What their referring to is that anyone can identify the principles related to success and once you apply the same principles you will get the same result.

So today we're diving into some of the principles that you can use to hit your goals whether you're in the middle of a pandemic, in lockdown, having a tough year, or you just straight up don't feel motivated. Here we go!

Principle #1: Focus On The 5% Activities

You will hear every successful person talk about having and focusing on the minimum activities that produce their biggest results. For me in my business, my 5% activities are connecting with new clients, planning out content, working on my messaging, creating email and social media copy, and things like this.

For you depending on what your goals are your 5% activities can include writing one chapter a week for your book, recording one song a week, connecting with one new industry professional a month until you're product starts to get some traction. It could also include growing your community whether that's on Instagram, Tik Tock, or Facebook.

Most people who struggle to hit their goals spend their time busy on social media, watching Netflix, running around doing errands, and living every day being busy but not actually getting to the activities that will have the biggest impact on their progress.

At the end of the year, they look up from all of their busyness and wonder where their time went because they were doing a lot, but they neglected the things that would have the biggest impact on their bottom line. Don't worry, I've been there, done that, and got the t.shirt. Let me help you.

Here's A Tip For You

Instead of trying to get everything done what I've learned to ask myself is "what activities will give me my biggest results?" The way that I like to think about this (especially during a pandemic when the kids are trying to get my attention all day) if I only got ONE THING done today that would move my life or business toward my goals what would it be?

Sometimes the answer is as simple as collaborating with someone else in the industry or hosting an IG live to connect with you in the community and hear how you are doing, or it could be finishing a book I started so that I can begin implementing a new strategy. It all depends on my goals for the quarter.

So, instead of doing what you would normally do and just read on to the next principle, take a minute right now to jot down one thing you can get done this week that will keep you on track to hit your goal this year.

Principle #2: Work Your Plan

91% of people fail to achieve their goals in the first month! This is sad. Now with a pandemic, you can imagine how many will use this to justify why it's okay if they fall behind on their goals, but not you.

Many times when I talk to people who are struggling to hit their goals they tell me things like "Girl, I'm winging it" or "I'm just going with the flow to see what happens" or "I'm trying to figure this out". This really makes me sad because I know how much potential is locked up inside of them and how effective they could be if they gave their goals some structure.

They are burning all of their energy going around in circles, working on unnecessary things, and slowing down their progress. If they only had a plan to follow! If they only chose to work smarter, if they only took some time to identify their 5% activities they would have gotten to their goals A LOT faster!

Here's A Tip For You

Apply the 90-day framework to your goals. You need a clear strategy and this provides that for you. Instead of trying to hit your goals based on hope and a prayer this framework helps you to map out a clear step-by-step process you can take starting using exactly where you are with what you have.

You don't need anything else. You just have to take action. Here's a link to an episode all about how to create one.

Principle #3: Hit Play

This is the most common thing that gets in the way for all of us. I'll give you a hint, it has to do with self-sabotage, overthinking, and self-doubt. Haha, we all stumble over this! Hit play and let's chat about what you can do to prevent this from slowing you down.

I know things feel harder now than ever before but you are still a rock star. You still have what it takes to take nothing and turn it into gold. You still have the power to create your reality and you still have the courage to step into your destiny. I love you and if you haven't heard this in a while let me remind you, you can do this! Until next time,  your accountability partner

How I Took My Business From $0-4k In 14 Days

April 20, 2020

I know what you're thinking! "This is ah-maz-ing!... How on earth did you do that?...Give me the secret!... I would love to do this with my business!" Am I right? Well, that's exactly what I'm doing in this episode, but before we go there I want to take you behind the curtain and give you the FULL story about how I got here.

You see, most of the time when we hear "success" stories about people taking their business from $0-$100,000 in a year they are giving us a quick summary of their journey. They are not telling us about all the rejection they faced on their way to 6-figures. They don't describe the frustration they felt about how long things were taking. They almost always leave out the details on the self-doubt and fear they experienced because their ideas weren't panning out the way they wanted.

My hope is that my journey not only blows your mind and inspires you to dream big, but that it also gives you a reality check and challenges you to think strategically. Are you ready? Hit play!

How It All Got Started

I started blogging a few years ago because I felt out of alignment. I was a mom of two sweet girls, married to a stunning dude, and on the outside, you would think I had it all going on, but I knew better. I knew there was more to my life. Every day I was being compelled to write more of the story. I had dreams of being my own boss, creating a life that reflected my values and living on my term but I didn't know how to do it or where to even start.

One day out of frustration I jumped on google in search for a website (back then I didn't know they were called blogs) that could walk me through the steps of managing being an awesome mom and building a successful empire (and I mean empire)! I was tried of feeling like I didn't have enough time to live my dream, I was tired of knowing that I had untapped potential, and I was tired of know what was possible and not doing anything about it. So that night I dropped all excuses and decided to be all in.

Related Post: Behind The Scenes: Summary of My First Quarter

After searching the internet for a few minutes and coming up short I realized that there were not any blogs focused on helping go-getter moms crush their goals while being rockstar mama's so I decided to create one which turned into a business and evolved into this podcast! Hit play to hear about my 2 year struggle to hit $4,000 in 14 days!

Where My Business Is Now

Lol, now if you follow me on Instagram then you probably know that my business has gone on to create more than 4k in 14 days. I turned my one-one-coaching program into an online course called How to Turn Your Goals Into Reality which helps people to apply a 90-day framework to their goals so that they can hit it in less time using less effort.

Then after working with clients, I realized that many people set goals and are trying to achieve "success" because they are looking for a sense of purpose! This led to the creation of my second online program called Alignment which helps people to identify their purpose so that they can align their life, goals, and priorities with it and live authentically! If you want to learn more about either of these programs shoot me a dm on IG!

As my business evolved I learned a lot about myself, leadership, team building, money management, marketing, and so much more, but here are the key things that changed for me in the process.

Here's What Changed For Me

1. I understood and stepped into my role as the CEO

I am the visionary, leader, and captain of the ship (my business). I make the decisions that lead to the exact destination I want. To be effective and remain focused I needed to let go of trying to manage the entire business by myself. This includes things like...

  • Weekly blog post
  • Weekly podcast production
  • Social media posts
  • Managing customer success (correspondence, product support, etc)
  • All administration
  • And so on

I had to completely step into my role as the strategetic visionary leader of my business and stop being the intern who was busy being busy and not actually being PRODUCTIVE (huge difference there). Prior to this revelation I was working LONG hours, frustrated with the results, busting my butt, and struggling to keep up with everything. My time was being squeezed left and right and I couldn't understand why I wasn't hitting my goals.

Now, I'm generating more sales and doing way less work. You're probably wondering how right? Well, thanks to my handy calendar and reliable team! Every month I lay out a clear road map to follow that helps me to focus on the most important things I need to get done and then everything else gets delegated to my strong team of leaders.

These guys not only enjoy what they do but they are also crazy talented! We incorporate a lot of automation using scheduling tools that help to keep the business running smoothly. In a future post I can share the tools, systems, and processes we use in the business if that is something you're interested in? Send me a dm on IG and let me know!

2. Really understand the needs and problems of my clients

I had to start from scratch. I realized that my message wasn't working. The way that I was talking to the ideal person that I wanted to work with wasn't translating into them saying "Wow, Tee knows exactly what I'm going through. She is the best person to help me with this" instead what they were saying was, "wow, that's so inspiring. You're great!" Lol! Can you see the difference? I had to tweak my message to effectively communicate that I was the best fit for them if they fit the description of the kind of person I help.

Related Post: 5 Things I'm Afraid to Tell You

This is business 101! If you are not communicating effectively with your audience or community you will know it because it's reflected in your sales. The way to create a connection with your audience is by first understanding and caring about them. It's like John Maxwell, "no one cares about how much you know until they know how much you care."

3. I have to do the work

This was a BIG one for me. This is about taking full responsibility for the results I am creating and being intentional about who I want to become. You have to hit play for this one!

The Outcome:

Lol, well, you already know! Needless to say after tweaking a few things in my business, stepping into my leadership role, and being a visionary I have gone on to generate a lot more sales! The reason why this excites me is because I know and wholeheartedly believe that transformation begins with the transaction!

Everyone I've been able to help is a result of them committing to aligning their life with their purpose! This is the heart of my mission. This is the reason why I got started. I know that people are capable of creating incredible lives but until we step into our greatness, let go of all excuses and truly commit we won't experience it.

Something strange that I noticed throughout this whole journey too is that when I decided to commit and go all-in on my business the clients I was getting were showing up in the exact same way. They were no longer okay with mediocrity, compromise, and hiding in the shadows of other peoples expectations for them. They were ready to do the work and this was the same internal resolution I made prior to seeing the shift in my life so to see the same level of determination, clarity, and focus in my clients was a DREAM!

When you hear about people who go from $0-$100,000 during their first year of business my hope is that it inspires you but don't use it as a measuring stick for how quickly you SHOULD grow in your business. Try to remember that you are exactly where you need to be for your next opportunity and behind every story is a lesson.

People on the front lines are only examples of what's possible. You can and will get there if that is your desire, but don't kill yourself trying to do it. Go at your pace. Learn your lessons. Master your craft. The beauty is in the process. Don't miss it trying to rush to the finish line. Until next time, your accountability partner! Xo.

Behind The Scenes: Summary of My First Quarter

April 13, 2020

Can you believe we're already in the second quarter of the year! Woooouuu! I'm excited. The first quarter felt short but I feel like I was able to use that time efficiently. In this episode, I'm going to be totally honest and share a review of my last quarter! Hit play and let's go!

I've had this idea to share reviews with you for a while now. My goal is that you can learn something helpful from my lessons, mistakes, and successes. Come along with me on my journey to freedom, authentic living, and growing a business that aligns with my purpose.

I failed

Right off the bat, I'm going to tell you that I didn't hit all of my goals last quarter (and I'm totally okay with that). As you listen to this entire episode you will hear why and you will also get a debrief on some of the lessons I learned but before we jump into things I just want to share a quick update:

First of all, I've been thinking about ways that I can support you during this whole pandemic. I know many of you are experiencing real-life situations like unemployment, loneliness due to the isolation, and straight-up fear because everything is changing and you're not sure what the future holds.

So I want you to know that you're not alone, the whole world is going through this with you and we are all trying to figure this out together. I also want you to know that I really do care about what you're experiencing and I'm putting together some resources that you can use to help you create a sense of stability in your life because here's the reality, things are changing and life from this point on will never be the same and this is good.

You now have the option to either play the victim and give up on your goals to create your ideal life  and explore your biggest dreams OR you can use this time to explore your options, create opportunities for yourself, and start living a brand new life. You know, the one you always envisioned for yourself. The choice is yours.

This pandemic will either push you closer to aligning with your purpose or it will distract you from it, but you choose the effect that it has on you. If you're here, reading this then I know you want to use this time to get aligned so I'll let you know when I have the resources ready for you!

Join The Squad

Also, JOIN ME IN OUR free brand new online community! I decided to create this online space for us because like that old proverb says "iron sharpens iron". We need each other. Birds of a feather flock together. I never understood this concept until last year, but studies have shown that we become like the people closest to us. This means if you're around people who have big dreams but never take action, prefer to be on social media than work on their goals, don't know their purpose, and are straight-up lazy then most likely you will fall into the same habits and ways of being (adopt the same character).

I want to build this community so that you can be around other like-minded people who will push you to become the rock star goal-getter that you know lives inside of you. No more thinking big and then hoping it comes true. Surround yourself with people who dream as big as you and are committed to making it a reality!

Since I'll also be in this community we can:
  • Have Monthly Coaching Sessions
  • Q&A Sessions to get your biggest questions answered!
  • Fun Networking Opportunities
  • And so much more!
If you know me then you already know it's going to be a lot of fun. Join me now!

Quarter One Review:

So I had quite a few goals this quarter varying from business to marriage. I don't want to bore you with all the details or keep you here for the next 3 hours lol so I will share a review of my business goals and the important lessons I learned in the last 90-days. Let's go!

The Goal:

My goal from January - March was to organize the back end of my business, establish clear processes and workflows and to get my team to be more efficient so that we can increase productivity and I can take my hands off the weekly content production wheel by using more automation tools like scheduling and so on.

The second goal was to help 15 big dreamers from this community to align with their purpose and turn their goals into something tangible. Whether their dream was to write a book, start an online business, create a movement, increase their impact, or simply strengthen their relationship with themself so that they can live a purposeful life I wanted to help.

The Method: What did I do?

With these two goals in mind here is what I did.

The Automation Test: The idea for this came to me while I was struggling to keep up with my ideal posting schedule for social media. As many of you know my jam is the gram! So I want to be posting on my feed at least 3 times a week and posting on IG stories every day and here's why.

1. It builds Connection

Social media is meant to be a social platform to create connections and community giving people a sense of belonging. On Instagram, I've been able to connect with a lot of people and I want to support as many of them as I can to tap into purpose and explore their potential. The best way I know how to do this is by being an example.

2. Solidifies our relationship

Since social media is a tool for connection I love sharing the behind the scene aspects of my life (and sometimes business) that I don't normally blog or podcast about. For me, this deepens our connection and allows us to have conversations around things like parenting, marriage, and finances.

3. Allows me to get to know you

Free market research! I mean for all of my entrepreneurial dreamers out there Instagram provides a free platform for you to get to know your audience, establish a community, and step up and be a leader.

People ask me all the time, how can I grow my following, the answer is simple, be a leader. Why would anyone want to follow you when all you post is what you ate for breakfast, how cute your cat is, and your outfit of the day. All of that stuff is great if you just want to blend in and be like everyone else (which I know you don't).

What will allow you the stand out in a place like Instagram is having a strong, compelling message that lets people know how you can help them so that they can decide whether they would benefit from following you or not.

Automation Tools:

Thankfully my husband is a marketing genius so this process didn't take too long. I was looking for tools that would help me to post consistently without having to be on the app all of the time because let's face it, Instagram can be a time sucker if you're not careful!

He gave me some great recommendations for tools that I could use to begin automating my social media posts including:

  1. Facebook Studio - This is good for scheduling Facebook and Instagram feed post as well as IGTV posts. You can track the amount of engagement you get on every post including stories, feed, IGTV, and carousels. However, you can not automate IG story posts or carousels.
  2. Plann - This tool is great for mapping out your feed, writing captions, and scheduling post. It didn't quite scratch my itch because it doesn't automatically post for you it will only send a notification to your phone saying "it's time to post!" which for me defeats the purpose of automation which is to be 100% hands-off.
  3. Later - I have not tried this yet. I have heard nothing but good things about it. If you have used this send me a DM on IG and let me know your thoughts!

The Masterclass: During quarter one I also hosted masterclasses once a week in the month of February until the first week of March. It was so much funnnnn! My goal with this was to teach people who were ready to take action on their goals how to maximize their effort, be efficient and actually get results in less than 90-days! If you attended thank you! I hope you had as much fun as I did! I definitely want to do this again maybe during the 3rd quarter.

The Result: How did it go?

Automation: I ultimately decided to go with Facebook Studio because it fits my needs for now. It shows me the analytics for all of my IG posts including stories, allows me to schedule to my feed or IGTV, and it's very simple to use. In the future, I may switch over to Later because it allows you to schedule posts to IG stories, but for now Facebook Studio is great.

Live Masterclass: Brace yourself this is INCREDIBLE! I had almost 50 people register over the course of 4 weeks to join me live in this FREE training which absolutely blew my mind. I was excited about this because this definitely reflects PROGRESS! Keep reading and I'll explain!

The Lesson:

Automation: When I'm ready to step up my game, get organized, have a posting schedule, and actually be consistent then these tools will be an asset to my business, but if I am inconsistent as a person then nothing I use will fix the problem. Hit play to hear more.

Live Masterclass: The first time I hosted this training I got a few sign ups but it was nowhere near 50 people. This time people would not stop signing up. I even got notified by my email provider that people were still signing up even after all the promotion had ended and the classes were over! Haha, This was awesome! Hit play to hear my biggest lesson from all of this.

Last quarter wasn't as productive as I hoped it would be, but on the same token, I was not as focused as I could have been. The biggest lesson I learned from the last quarter is to be integral. Follow through on what you say you're going to do and the results will follow. Until next time big dreamers! Your accountability partner! Xo.

5 Things I Am Afraid to Tell You

April 6, 2020

This is not the typical stuff we normally talk about on the podcast. Today, we're going DEEP! Before you hit play beware that this conversation might have you in tears by the end. In this episode, I'm taking off the mask, allowing you to see my heart, and trusting that this will be the beginning of something new, something real, and something I've been looking for, for a while.

Today, I want to take our relationship to the next level. Are you ready? Hit play and let's chat!

Book club

I know we haven't done the book club in 2 whole months but THIS MONTH we are getting back into it. Oh, and don't get it twisted! Don't think because WE haven't done it that I haven't been reading! Haha, you already know you're girl can not put a book down! Reading is apart of my life, I love it hence why I started a book club this year!

So, while we've been taking a break, I've been getting my feet wet in some heavy purpose related books, brain science, and neurology books, as well as habit and psychology books! We are going to dive into some pretty cool stuff this year, but before we do I wanted to get you in the habit of reading again so I've got something short and sweet for you!

Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson. This book is super relatable right now because of what we're all currently experiencing with this corona pandemic. The theme of this book is change. How to deal with it? When to start? How to manage your emotions, and everything else that goes with it.

Related Post: Coronavirus: We're In This Together

You can order a copy from Amazon here - No this is NOT an affiliate link. I simply love the book and want to read it with you this month.

You can also watch a quick summary of the book here on Youtube before you buy it.

You can also listen to the whole thing here for FREE on audible (if you are not a member you can get a FREE 30-day trial)!

I also found this Youtube version of the audiobook. Not sure how long this will be up but you can listen to it here while it's up. You will probably enjoy the audible version better...it's better quality just saying!

5 Things I Am Afraid to Tell You

1. When I look at myself in a mirror the first thing I look for is...flaws

Instead of celebrating how beautiful I am and looking for reasons to appreciate myself lately I've been looking for ways to make myself more "socially acceptable". You know, things like...removing dark circles under my eyes, getting rid of any excess "baby weight" or some call it "mommy tummy". Small things that don't matter in the grand scheme of life, but when you want to be socially accepted or approved these things can weigh you down.

You might be able to relate? According to research, 56% of women say they are dissatisfied with their overall appearance and out of that percentage, 71% say it's related to their abdomens, 66% say it's their body weight, 60% are dissatisfied with their hips, and 58% don't like their muscle tone.

If you thought this was something that only us ladies struggle with, check again. In this same study, the majority of men showed the same dissatisfaction with their abdomens making up 63% of the men who participated in this study. Weight was right behind that coming in at 52%. Hit play to hear my full thoughts on this.

2. I struggle with procrastination and self-sabotage

Whaaaaat! Now that's a trip! Me, the girl who is always encouraging you to crush your goals and be the greatest version of yourself actually struggles with the same things you do!? Right about now I'm sure you're thinking...

Related Post: Behind The Scenes: Summary of My First Quarter

You mean to tell me Tee, that you struggle with fear? Yep. Self-sabotage? Everyday! Overthinking? At least once a week. And Self-doubt? Lol, who doesn't?! Lol, now before you start throwing stones I want you to hear me out. Hit play and let me explain!

3. I don't like to experience negative emotions

Now before you read this and think it's a good thing go back to the top, hit play and listen while I explain why this is not a good thing for me. Spoiler alert, not processing your REAL feelings and emotions is not healthy. Blissful ignorance does not help anybody.

4. I actually wrestle with a fear of success

This one might throw you off, but I'm afraid of offending people by my brilliance. I don't want to shine too bright, I don't want to be the most excited, vibrant person in the room. I don't want to be the center of attention or be called a "leader".

Related Post: 90-day Goals: What They Are, Where to Start, & How to Create One

I know this might sound silly, and I know that my shine does not take away from anyone else, but I don't want to offend any by being authentic, being the greatest version of myself, and actually "winning" hitting my goals and beyond. This is why I don't always share things with you that I know can benefit you like how I took my income from $0 to 10k in less than 90-days or how I took my business from 0 clients to overbooked in less than 2 weeks.

Call me crazy, but I have been afraid of offending people by being "successful" (hitting my goals, living my ideals, following my dreams, pursuing my purpose). Hit play for a deep dive

5. I am not going to write this one because it's sensitive

Many people have experienced this and I don't want to trigger any bad memories or feelings for anyone so full disclaimer if you have been abused in any way, are dealing with an open wound related to abuse, or just don't like talking about this kind of thing then don't listen to this episode. It's not for you.

Whew! Now that we got all of that out of the way I feel like I should re-introduce myself and we can start a brand new relationship built on trust, authenticity, and real unconditional love. Are you with me?

Hi, my name is Tee and I love fish tacos, lasagna and anything to do with...My favorite thing to wear is ripped jeans and you can find me walking along the lake pushing a double stroller singing Thank You For My Life/Dear God by Smokie Norful! Now, it's your turn. Hit me up on IG and tell me a little something about you!

Invest In Yourself

April 5, 2020

"The only person you are
destined to become is
the person you decide to be."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

If you've been a part of this community you know that I'm all about developing and challenging yourself to stop dreaming and start doing. You also understand the importance of continual growth and you're actively pushing yourself to live up to your full potential and maximize your life.

Every month we do a monthly personal development challenge and so far we've learned more about ourselves through self-awareness (May 2018), pushed ourselves to crush our  goals through self-discipline (April 2018), and we forced ourselves to develop our ability to focus in order to maximize results (February 2018).

If you'd like a full review of the challenges we've done this year you can check them out here.

Now for this month's challenge we are going to invest in ourselves. This simply means we're going to choose an area we want to strengthen in our life, character, business (or whatever else you chose). Then we're going to get to work and start investing in ourselves by doing whatever it takes (without compromising our integrity) to get the results we want. We have to be completely sold on the idea, count the cost, and be willing to pay the price.

"Don't stop until
you get the results you want."
- Tee Forever

Action Step 1: Decide WHAT you want to accomplish. Clearly identify exactly what area of your life you want to focus on. This includes your family relationships, finances, business, character, spirituality, etc.

After you've decided the area you will work on, clarify exactly what it is within that goal you want to strengthen. So, for example, the are you choose to focus on could be business growth. Now you have to specify which aspect of your business you want to strengthen or develop. Is it customer relationships, marketing, or finances?

Action Step 2: Create a plan. HOW are you going to accomplish what you wrote in action step 1? Who can you connect with to help you make this happen? What book can you read that'll help you get your mind in the right place to get amazing results? Who has done it before you and is willing to give you feedback? Or what kind of character do you need to be able to get those results? What exactly do you want and how will you do/get it?

Action Step 3: Don't try to implement action step 2 on your own. Find a reliable ACCOUNTABILITY partner. Now, I know that some of you are thinking..."I don't know anyone that has time to help me, is interested in personal growth, or is a goal-getter." Stop right there. You don't know who is able to help you until you open your mouth and ASK for it! You don't know what people are capable of or what their goals are until you start talking to them about stuff like that. You are surrounded by people with big dreams who would love to help you, you just don't know it yet.

Everyone is born a dreamer. We all have things we want to accomplish in life, we all desire more than what we currently have and experience. You just have to reach out and ask someone you trust to hold you accountable to getting results in this one area of your life for the next 30 days. Are you with me?

We can't afford to live in fear, self-doubt, or comparison anymore. This month, let's focus on investing in ourselves so that we can maximize our time on earth. You ready? Let's do it! Until next time,

Be Patient With Yourself

"Strength and growth come only
through continuous effort and struggle."
 - Napolean Hill

We've come to the end of our 30-day self-awareness challenge so you know I have to ask, what did you unlock within yourself? Do you have a better understanding of your triggers and areas that you will continue to work on? Did the exercise that I shared in the first post help get you started? What have you achieved over the last 30 days?

I can say for myself that although I uncovered many of my strengths, I've also found many traits and characteristics that I need to work on. I'm no longer unaware of the side of me that is lazy which effects the overall quality of my life and success. I'm no longer ignorant of the prideful and self-sabotaging tendencies that I am now correcting. Living in the dark requires less work, but choosing to be self-aware brings healing.

Now, as we move forward to the next personal development challenge (for next month) you have to maintain your current progress while also building on it. So, if self-awareness is something you want to sustain, commit to these three things.

1. Journal

Having a journal helps you to empty your mind and organize your thoughts. Consider this, how do you feel when you have 1,001 things to do and your list is only in your mind? Like you're forgetting to do something or like you're falling behind, right? Well, it's the same idea when you carry around all of your thoughts throughout the day. It can cause you to feel overwhelmed or stressed out, especially if your day isn't going according to plan. Journaling will help you to identify unhealthy patterns and triggers in your life/mind that you're currently unaware of.

2. Self-Awareness Exercise

Remember the exercise that I shared on day 1 of our challenge? (if not, you can download it here). The purpose of these exercises is to help you identify things that are triggers for you. Example: for me, sunny, warm weather triggers a craving for burgers or something sweet like a popsicle. Now that I'm aware of this trigger I'm more careful about what I chose to eat on warm, summer-like days. I also intentionally increase my water consumption to lower my desire for unhealthy things.

You have to find out what triggers different emotions for you and create a way to maintain and maximize your mental peace and overall satisfaction/gratitude in life. Do these exercises at least once a month.

3. Change

This one is the most important. If you journal and do the self-awareness exercises but choose to ignore or dismiss areas you NEED to work on, you will not grow. You will only maximize your life when you're humble and teachable. Listen, finding an area that needs improvement is only half the battle. Working on yourself and making the necessary changes completes the picture. If you see what needs to change and do nothing about it you're only deceiving yourself.

"Personal growth means personal evolution.
We have to evolve from the person we are now
to the person we know we're capable of becoming."
- Tee Forever

After you've done all that you can, be patient with yourself. We all know that growth doesn't happen overnight and it took us a while to become who are so it will take us some time to become who we want to be! Until next time,

Self-Awareness: Facts Over Feelings

"Self-awareness doesn't stop you
from making mistakes.
It allows you to learn from them."
- Unknown

Hey Guys, Welcome Back!

As we dig into this self-awareness journey I'm beginning to clearly identify A LOT of my flaws. About a week ago I was out with my family and I saw an old co-worker that I still remain acquainted with. I see them at least once a week because we attend some of the same events. I'm not sure what was going on in their mind or what was happening in their day, but when I enthusiastically greeted them, they looked up at me as if they barely knew me and with a fake smile said "hi!". Needless to say, I quickly felt offended. I thought to myself "no matter how badly your day is going I shouldn't be the recipient of your attitude."

I tried to let it slide and enjoy the rest of my day, but...IT DIDN'T WORK! In the back of my mind, deep in my subconscious I thought "what is their problem?" Later that day when I saw them again surprisingly they were excited and eager to strike up a conversation with me, but you probably guessed right,  I wasn't interested. I was too busy being offended. Nod your head if you've ever been in my shoes! Lol, don't lie! Ha-ha!

Later that night, I realized that my second interaction with them was me reacting to their pain and frustration with my pain and insecurity. We all know that two wrongs don't make a right, but in that moment I felt justified in being offended.

"He who takes offense when no offense is intended is a fool."
- Brigham

Now I realize that I'm knocking myself and publicly admitting that my response was pretty normal and foolish. Everyone has bad days, but someone else's bad day doesn't excuse me to lower the standard I have for my character.

What I learned from this common experience is that I need to protect my inner peace by allowing people to keep their bad days to themselves! In life we'll have many opportunities to get offended, but how does that help us crush our goals or become the people we know we're capable of being? It doesn't. My goal is to become the best version of myself while living a life that honors God, all while developing deeper self-awareness. Dissecting other people's flaws and trying to figure everyone else out is a distraction! Causing people pain because they caused me pain is immature.

"It is not necessary to react to everything you notice."

Something we're all tempted to do is to allow how people treat us to determine how we feel about ourselves and how we feel about them. Ooouuuuu! That's good! Think about it. When someone you care about has a bad day and does something to you that you interpret as disrespectful, in the moment, how do you feel about yourself? How do you feel about them? For most people I can say 100% that we're not thrilled and patiently waiting to squeeze the offender with the biggest hug of their life! No, we feel rubbed the wrong way and we try to console ourselves.

Don't allow how people treat you to be a trigger or a mirror for how you feel about them or yourself! I hope you guys brought a notebook because this is GOOD! I'm sharing some real practical life tips. This takes practice and you will fail, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible for you to do this.

1. Allowing people to determine how you feel about yourself gives them too much control over you. In truth no one actually dictates your feelings but you. When you allow external influences to decide how you feel about yourself you don't know who you are yet and the incredible amount of value you possess.

2. Allowing people that you care about to determine how you feel about them proves that your love, friendship, and relationship as a whole is very conditional and based on your selfish needs. It's like telling your boyfriend/girlfriend, "I love you because you compliment me, spend time with me, and make me feel important." Is that what love looks like to you? If you only care about people because they seem to care about you, tell me, what kind of relationship is that? A selfish you-centered relationship.
"You can't control other people.
You can control how you react to them."

This is pretty obvious, but it's worthy of being mentioned. When we feel hurt, angry, disappointed, and rejected, whether we're aware of it or not, we act like it. Once our feelings change towards someone so does our behavior. In my most recent experience (that I shared above), the second time I interacted with the person I was offended by I naturally, unintentionally reacted to them in a way that communicated distance and disinterest. My plan wasn't to treat them the way I felt they treated me. To be honest I was encouraging myself and trying to remind myself to be "the bigger person" (I'm sure you've tried this too, lol!). Like Michelle Obama says "when they go low, we go high". I was committed to not allowing offense to dictate my behavior, but I failed and I'm glad I did.

We will never control what others say to us, how they treat us, or how they view us, but WE'RE ALWAYS IN CONTROL of how we react to what we interpret as mistreatment.

Now this one is hard to identify and hard to avoid, but if we want to deepen our self-awareness and create progress in our lives we have to strive for this. Don't allow how one person or a group of people treated you to determine how you view and interact with others who have the same economic background, life experience, or physical appearance. I admit, THIS IS HARD to execute! But can you do it? No doubt!

One person or a group of people that have mistreated you doesn't reflect the rest of the world, or the rest of that race, or the rest of that gender, and so on. How that person treated you is a reflection of their character. So, let's stop limiting our perspective to what we experience and start basing our feelings and responses on facts as well as the person we want to be.

You are more than awesome! So worthy of love, respect, and appreciation! I love being able to encourage you as well as help you identify areas of weakness. I know that if you read this through the eyes of wanting to deepen your roots you'll find seeds of nourishment! Let's continue our journey of self-awareness this month and here's a tip for the brave: Be yourself at all times, no matter what is happening around you. *Mwah!* Until next time,

Theresa Forever
