It Takes A Village

January 29, 2018

Growing up in Toronto I heard this proverb a lot, but like many of you I didn't fully understand it. Now as a mother of 2, I've grown to appreciate it, but I don't think I've stratched the surface of this deep proberb. One of the beauty's of this proverb is that it can be applied to multiple situations and produce solid advice for the hungry heart. When I think of it's meaning I simply imagine that no one, on their own, can move a mountain. It takes a community. And no one person can successfully run a business, it takes a team. We know that as individuals we aren't strong or smart enough to conquer the world on our own, but that doesn't stop us from trying. Why? Because most of us believe we're superhuman!

- Doug Larson - Click to tweet

We all like to imagine that we can do more than we're capable of doing. In our quest to be productive, we fill our schedules with every to-do list task we can think of. Once we start attempting to "kill it" we start feeling over-whelmed and drained because our schedule is on steroids! Lol, this ought not to be my friends! Your goals, routine, and schedule should energize you or spark excitement in you not the opposite. If you've lost your passion, here are 3 things you can do.

1. Join A Community

Intentionally form relationships with like-minded people who are walking in the direction that leads to where you want to go. This means, mingle with people that are progressive. People that elevate your thinking and pull you up instead of drag you down. Spend less time with people that aren't growth oriented. Yes, we still love them and hope the best for them, but how much are you really helping them if you choose not to develop yourself and instead go shopping, talk on the phone all day, study people you don't know on social media, and watch youtube/netflix all day? Lol, this ain't helping nobody! Develop yourself and shower your love on them from a distance. Trust me, you are more beneficial to them once you get yourself together. I promise!

2. Ask For Help

Delegate Tasks! This is so simple, but if you practice this it will change your life for the better. You could come up with an amazing, super detailed, and elaborate plan, but without successful execution it's a WASTE OF TIME! Start working with people that compliment you. Find talented free lancers or friends and ask for help. It's even better if you offer something valuable in exchange for the service you receive. Try it! It never hurts to ask.

3. Solitude/Rest

Give yourself a mental break from everything! Don't think about your daily responsibilities, don't plan for your future during this time, just relax and recharge. This break will help you to be more productive than you thought you would've been if you had pushed yourself and tried to work your tired brain. Rest yields many refreshing rewards and creativity is one of them!

I love you guys,
Until next time,
Xoxo!

Integrity: Practice What You Preach

January 27, 2018

"Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching."
- C.S Lewis

Welcome back!

Y'all ain't ready for this! Today, we're talking about something that is so dear to my heart. It's impossible to have lasting success without this foundation, and it'll keep you out of trouble. You already know, I'm talking about integrity! Let's look at the definition to ensure we're all on the same page.

"the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness...the state of being whole and undivided." (www.dictionary.com).

Based on this definition we see that integrity is maintaining your moral values. This is especially important when you're under pressure, stressed, challenged, or experiencing change. No matter how much temptation you face, a person with integrity is undivided. They've predetermined to build their life on their convictions (which doesn't change frequently) and they're committed to following through on that decision.

"A single lie destroys a whole reputation of integrity "
- Baltasar Gracian

Alright now here’s where it gets real! I'll be honest, sometimes I feel like a hypocrite. Why? Because I don't always follow through on my convictions. I have rare moments when I choose to ignore the feeling of right or wrong and I do what I want to do, simply because that's what I want to do. Is this a good thing to apply? Of course not! Through routine practice of this, I could eventually dull my conscious and lose my compass of right and wrong. Do I strive to adhere to my convictions as much as possible? Yes! Because I know making the right choices and doing the right thing(s) gets me promotion the right way and places me on a solid foundation to build the life that I want. So, I get it! People with integrity make mistakes, but we learn from them and keep it moving! We don't build our life or reputation on a lie.

- John Wooden - Click to tweet

Consider this, a life of lies and hypocrisy is the fastest way to destroy your credibility. This not only effects your present relationships and influence, but it can damage your future. Sadly, we're all familiar with at least one story of someone who presented themselves to be someone they couldn't maintain behind closed doors. Eventually, the truth caught up with them. I personally believe that no matter how long it takes, the truth always comes out in the end.

- Tee Forever  - Click to tweet
Moving forward, I challenge you to live what you teach and practice what you preach. If you claim to be living a certain lifestyle, or that you have hard core convictions about something, simply follow through on it in your daily choices. Don't allow life challenges or pressure test to throw you off your game. You got this! Right and wrong is ingrained in you. Understand your values and allow them to guide you!

"If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything"
- Malcolm X

I know sometimes it's easier to go with the flow, but trust me, it's always better to follow a moral compass. These values are usually more logical than we are in the moment, they are proven age-old principles, and they've brought success to people world-wide who lived before us and will continue for people who live after us. Value's are a solid foundation to build on. I personally always look to God and the bible for principles and guidance, especially when I feel indecisive. I know 100% that I can always find a solid answer in the bible!

"A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches..."

- Proverbs 22:1

Your reputation exceeds you. Be integral and don't lose sight of your values.
Until next time,
Xoxo!

How Hard Lessons Build Character

January 22, 2018

"If you're going through hell, keep going"

- Winston Churchill

If you've lived long enough you know life is full of hills and valley's. In some seasons, you'll experience both extremes at the same time. Some of you might ask, why are valley's necessary? Why do we experience challenges like death, sickness, infidelity, addiction, and depression? The truth is, I don't have the answer. What I can tell you, is journeying through these dark places is meant to build your character, not break you down.

My life has been anything, but peaches and cream. I grew up without a dad (to this day I still don't know where he is), and my mom died when I was 15 years old. I've had to learn many lessons the really hard way, but guess what? I wouldn't be strong, beautiful, gracious, smart, and independent if I never faced all of my specific challenges. Anyone of my close friends will you tell,  I'm always smiling and it's not because my life is easy. It's because I chose to see life from a "glass half full" perspective.

Fast forward to now (11 years later), I'm married with 2 beautiful kids and I'm living my dream in multiple area's of my life. How did this happen? I for one, accredit my progress to God because I believe that He stepped in at the right time, every time and protected me from creating a bigger mess of my life. I also believe that having a positive mindset and knowing that life would get better helped me fight through the chaos and confusion. If you had met me when I was 15 years old, you would have never imagined that I would end up where I am today.

"Challenges in life are meant to build your muscles"
- Tee Forever

By muscles I mean, your character muscles. When you're walking through blazing, thick fire and you want to run away, hide, sleep all day, or ignore the problem remind yourself that God never created you to live and die in misery. Think about the next chapter. Stay focused and remind yourself that there is more to your story. When you're in the middle of a mess, sometimes it's hard to see pass the daily struggle and fears that you feel. But if you just close your eyes for a moment and think about some of the good experiences you've had in the past and about some of your future goals and things you'd like to do one day, you'll find hope.

"Everyday brings a new beginning and a new ending"

Instead of allowing the pressure to break you, use your valley experience to develop stronger character. Turn the loss into a win, by creating something meaningful out of the experience. Find valuable lessons in everything. Think about how you can help someone else  avoid some of the mistakes you've made. Try creating music, journaling, dancing, painting, acting, or anything creative, as an outlet to express your pain. I'm telling you from experience, all of the above will help. Don't allow life to kill you and force you into joining the walking dead club. You were created to rise above it all.

Until next time, Stay focused & love yourself!
Xoxo.

The Importance Of Clear Communication

January 20, 2018

"For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
- Isaac Newton

Sometimes we take lightly to the fact that every choice we make directly effects our life. When we know the right thing to do, and chose to ignore it, there is a consequence, and the same thing is true for the opposite. We all know that in life there is no reset or erase button, so we need to start thinking more critically before making decisions.

"Never make permanent decisions on temporary feelings."

This is something that a lot of us struggle with. We think we can spew out whatever garbage wants to flow out of our mouth, behave however we feel, hurt people with our words or actions, and then revoke the damage by apologizing.

Life doesn't work this way and it's never okay. I know it's challenging to control yourself when emotions are high and you're feeling stressed out, or like your at you're breaking point, but operating like this only diminishes your credibility and reputation and makes you look immature and incompetent.

"Instead of acting a fool, try communicating."
- Tee Forever

Instead of blowing up, try talking to the person and expressing what made you upset, frustrated, or hurt. This my love, is a sign of strong character and prudence. When you're under pressure and you must make a decision, consider all of your options, then decide the best way to move forward. This might take some time but, you don't have to respond to every situation or demand right away.

I had a gym teacher in grade 8 who told me, "in life, there will be times when you have to do what you don't want to do to get to the point where you can do what you want to do". As a 14-year-old kid this went over my head. Now, after chewing on this for several years I've gleaned wisdom from this simple piece of advice. If you don't discipline yourself, life will discipline you. Think about that.

"If you're not willing to change, don't expect your life to either."

Our current relationships are a result of things we did or didn't do. Our current quality of life is a result of things we did or didn't do. Every day we make choices that affect us and those who are closely connected to us. In 2018, let's stop being selfish and let's make better choices. Let's weigh the pros and cons of our behavior before responding to a conflict. Let's take some time to think before making life changing decisions. And let's commit in our mind to do things that not only benefit us, but everyone that is influenced by us.

Until next time! Xoxo

Here's The Truth About Being Authentic

January 18, 2018

Welcome Back!

Raise your hand if you've struggled with being yourself? What do I mean? Allowing people to get to know the real you. The you that doesn't always want to smile and nod. The you, that isn't always attractive. If you said "yes" give me a high five because I feel you! Being yourself isn't always comfortable. Although you feel liberated on the inside it makes you vulnerable to others. But, ultimately, choosing to be yourself makes you a leader.

"Be yourself. No one can ever tell you you're doing it wrong."

- James Leo Herlihy

Growing up in a culture that focuses on finding your strengths, doing your best, and never showing signs of weakness allowed me to present a surface level version of myself. I chose to hide because I wasn't comfortable allowing people to know my real thoughts, and truth be told, I lacked self-awarenessNow, don't get me wrong. I would share my opinions and engage in meaningful conversations, but I wasn't always comfortable allowing people to know my real thoughts.

As I matured and realized how inconsistent people (and it's okay), I stopped focusing on what they thought and how they felt about me, and instead began to focus on being true to myself, my beliefs, and my values. When asked for my input I started to respectfully share my perspective, opinions, and feelings whether or not the listener agreed. You would think this caused an eruption of passionate, volcanic argumentative tidal waves, but the opposite happened. Many people started respecting my opinions. Some, even started seeking my counsel and advice because they knew I could offer a perspective that challenged them to think differently.

Here Are 3 Truths I Learned Through Being Myself

 1. It Develops Your Self-Confidence
When you speak your truth in love you're not under the spell of trying to impress others or seeking their approval. You learn how to trust yourself and you begin to admire and value your personal courage and boldness.

2. You Become Attractive
People are attracted to what's authentic and genuine. When you respectfully share your perspective, yes, some people will be offended, that's true, but, it's also true that some will appreciate your sincerity in simply sharing your truth.

3. You Experience Real Freedom
Our society is full of people trying to convince you that their life is perfect and amazing. When you identify and live your core beliefs you experience less pressure, less stress, less regret, and less self-doubt.

What if this year you simply devoted  time to being more of yourself?
Until next time, Xoxo!
See you soon!

How To Take Responsibility For Your Life

January 13, 2018

Welcome back! If you're new here, what's up!? Welcome to the party! In my last blog I challenged you to spend less time on social media to focus on developing your potential. Have you started? How's it coming along? I know that spending less time on social media is hard, but that's why I made this our first CHALLENGE! If you couldn't start with us but would still like to join, you're more than welcome! All the information for this challenge is in my last blog titled "How to Live Out Your Potential".

Alright! So here we are! The second week of the New Year. How are your goals coming along? Are you still on track? Are you losing momentum? Are you feeling overwhelmed? Well, let me tell you, I experience at least two of these feelings once a week, lol!

"Developing focus and being consistent is a skill we have to cultivate. It doesn't come naturally to anyone!"
- Tee Evans

During our limited time on earth we get 24 hours a day. What are we doing with this time? The average person spends about
  • 8 hours sleeping
  • 8 hours working at a full-time job/school
  • Approx. 3-4 hours total travelling, cooking, eating, etc.
  • Approx. 3-4 hours on leisure (entertainment, working out, socializing, etc.)
This kind of routine proves that most of us don't know what to do with time.

To live an intentional life, we need a target. We need to envision the life we want to create and then spend our time creating it. Now, some of you are thinking, God is sovereign, He has a plan and it will happen regardless of our choices and actions because He's all powerful. You're partially right! He is sovereign, and He not only has a plan for us, but He also shares it with us. However, He wants our co-operation in the execution of His plan. For example, let's say His plan for me is to travel the world teaching people how to read. If I don't develop myself and learn how to read, will I be able to teach others? Obviously not! I must work with God to experience His plan(s), aka I must work with God to create the life He planned for me. It's that simple.

So how do we take responsibility for our lives? By minimizing distractions, establishing prioritizes based on its level of importance to our goal(s), and creating a routine around our priorities. Here's an example of how I do this.

Minimize Distractions:
My Samsung 6 smartphone stopped working in the last week of December in 2017. I was phoneless for about a week although I still had access to social media and my emails. During this time, I felt less of an urgency to engage with the internet world. Why? Because I wasn't being notified/distracted by reminders every second. So, this is what I do now. When I'm working on a goal I turn my phone off which includes shutting down my email and social media and I put all my devices out of sight. Out of sight, out of mind.

Prioritize:
Every task that brings you a few steps closer to realizing your goal(s) should be your primary focus for the day. Now this is a skill that I'm currently developing. This is a hard one for me because, like many of you, I wake up with 1,001 demands every day. I've started planning my day the night before, but this doesn't always work. As of late, I've begun to boil my list down to my top 3 most important goal oriented tasks for the day and I do them at the cost of everything else. Once I complete my top 3 task, I review the list and complete anything else I have time for. One tip for working with a schedule is, don't deviate from it unless there is an emergency or something that desperately requires your immediate assistance. A text message is not urgent, your spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend calling is not urgent, an email or social media notification is not urgent. Being alerted to a deadline you're about to miss is urgent and requires your immediate attention. You get the picture.

Routine:
Once I have clear goals I create a routine that includes my goal(s). All this means is I take my daily top 3 most important goal oriented task and turn them into a routine. Everyday might be the same 3 goals or I might rotate them with another goal. So, let's say my goal is to lose 10 lbs by this Spring 2018. I write down how much weight I will loose on a weekly basis (you can choose to measure it monthly) and I write down what I'm going to change to see results.

Ex: I will exercise 3 times a week, stop eating fast food, and drink water with every meal. Then I go to my calendar and schedule my exercise. After doing this for about 2-3 weeks and I start seeing results I turn it into a routine to ensure that I hit my goal.

I know these tips will bless your life because they've brought dramatic transformation to mine!
See you in the next one! Xoxo.
