Your Dream Is About To Expire

March 31, 2018

"There is a price to pay to make the changes you want in life. There is also a price you're already paying for staying the way you are. You have to weigh these two prices and decide what to do based on that comparison and no one can do that for you."
- Bill Harris

During my pursuit to launch my business, the reality that everything cost something really began to make sense to me. We can all easily understand that tangible things like clothes, food, and shelter cost us money, while other blessings like kids, self-education, and work cost us time. Something I want you to examine over this long weekend is what will your goal(s) cost you?

If you decided right now that you're going to commit yourself to accomplish the goal that's been following you around for the past year how much effort would you have to put in to attain this goal? Are there any specific skills you'll have to upgrade? How much money will you have to invest to get the results you want? What will you have to sacrifice?

While you consider these questions I also want you to think about how you would spend some of your unlimited and limited resources to accomplish this task. An unlimited resource is anything that can be replenished or acquired like money, knowledge, and skills. A limited resource is anything you can't get back or that is limited in nature like time. There is a price tag attached to every accomplishment. Decide how much you're willing to pay and then either commit to the goal or accept that it's time to break up.

"Decisions are the hardest thing to make especially when it is a choice between where you should be and where you want to be."
- Unknown

If you've been carrying a goal in your thoughts for OVER A YEAR, it's time to decide whether you want to experience it in real life or not. John C. Maxwell said "Life is a matter of choices and every choice you make, makes you." Why? Because we're all responsible for building our empires and our lives. The person we become in the process is based on the choices we make throughout our journey. God cast the vision and we create the plan with the wisdom and common sense He provides. How do you think Albert Einstein developed his theory on relativity? Do you think he was just a natural genius and could easily work through formula's and figure this out. Nooooo! He worked on his mind. He developed his understanding on the subject and experimented with different theories and ideas, which means HE MADE PLENTY OF MISTAKES by the way. He also had to sacrifice sleep and time he would never get back. But guess what? He believed that finding a solution was necessary. Now over 60 years later we still respect and value his discoveries. I could list many more examples like Albert, but I won't because I'm sure you get the point. Decide how important this goal is to you, why it's important and if you really believe this is something you can accomplish GO FOR IT! I'm going to tell you right now, anything that's been following you for THIS amount of time, is worth pursuing. You are obviously passionate about it so man up, and for my ladies, put on your big girl panties and make it happen. Stop getting in your own way.

"Don't just dream big, follow through!"
- Bob Buford

Here's a FREE goal-getter cheat sheet to help you follow through on your goals!...You can thank me later *wink*

This is where everything comes to life. You've thought about what this goal will require for you to experience it in all of it's glory! You've weighed the pros and cons and decided it's worth the pursuit, now the hardest stage of all...follow through. We have to work our plan! James said "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without work is dead." No matter how much we pray, hope, cry, talk, worry, plan, schedule, envision, believe, and desire for something to happen, if we don't discipline our bodies to follow through on the things we've planned WE WILL NEVER experience it. The reason isn't because God doesn't want us to have it, or because no one will help us, or because our environment is toxic, or because we're around the wrong people. *Shake my head* Nope. The reason why we won't accomplish this goal without follow through is because no one can put in the effort to accomplish this on our behalf. If we want something we have to pay for it. It's a simple formula you want, you pay.

An unknown source said never "make permanent decisions based on temporary feelings." You know that if you don't discipline yourself and do what is required to get the results you'll continue living in a cycle of discontent. We both know that you were made to be and do more than you're currently doing. Don't short change yourself. Go big or go home!

Until next time,

Goal Getter: Work Smarter, Not Harder (Improve Your Hustle)

March 29, 2018

"A person who never made a mistake
never tried anything new."
- Albert Einstein

We are quickly approaching the end of this month! How are you guys doing with the Go Big Or Go Home - Self Discipline goal you started (click here to learn more)? As promised I am on route to launch my online business at the beginning of next month! Wooou hooouuu! Super exciting right? I know! Well as exciting as this is, I know a few of you guys are launching businesses and completing major projects so kudos to ya'll! I'm happy to be connected to mountain moving GOAL-GETTERS!

Alright so, nod your head if you've ever made a silly mistake that could've been avoided if you had adequately prepared, built up your self-confidence, or trusted smart people around you? *Head nod* yep! Just last week I was preparing dinner and my husband suggested that I should turn the heat down before I burn everything. Of course, since I'm an experienced chef I tried to ignore his suggestion, but lo and behold, Mr. Hubby was RIGHT! You know when you're about to put a freshly baked, soft chocolate chip cookie into your mouth, and then you remember that it's not good for you so you quickly put it down...well, some of you still eat it (LOL!), but THAT'S how close I was to ruining dinner!

One of our weaknesses as goal-getters is we try to do everything ourselves. We plan the project or business, implement everything in the plan, run marketing campaigns, build our brand, and the list goes on. By the end of all this most of us end up feeling overwhelmed. This golden nugget I'm about to share with you applies to me as well. If you talk to some of my closest friends they'll tell you I'm always go-go-go with my kids, business, meetings, etc. Late nights, early mornings. But here's something I want to challenge you with. One day a week take some time to stop everything. Breathe. Sleep, eat, and repeat this for the WHOLE DAY! I know! You could use that 18-hour day to crush at least 10 major tasks, right? It's true, but here's a scientific fact. When you allow your mind and body to rest your stress levels decrease, you produce more clear, deep thoughts, and your creativity, which we all rely on, increases. Another thing we must consider is delegating task. This does not always require money. You could reach out to a budding entrepreneur that specializes in the task you want to delegate and offer to provide a free service in exchange for their assistance. You could also ask a friend that is gifted in the area you want help. There are SO many ways you could delegate task for free and get high quality results. Stop trying to do everything! it takes a team to build an empire.

"Great things in business are never done by one person.
There done by a team of people."
- Steve Jobs

The people you chose to partner with is almost as important as who you chose to marry. When I refer to partnership I'm not only talking about business. This includes the people you choose to spend time with like your closest friends and family. In business it's pretty simple you can easily replace the wrong people with the right ones however, in personal relationships it can be a bit more complicated. When sifting through the kind of influences you want, you have to decide the type of character and mentality you want to be around. As a person that is limitless in your thinking and intentional about how you spend your time, do you want to be influenced by people that gossip, aren't teachable, and are complainers? I'll give you a second to answer that...

Get the right influences in your circle and let the wrong ones go.

Now, a lot of entrepreneurs and goal-getters want quick results. Sometimes this leads us to quit a good idea before we get to experience the full beauty of it's potential. Here's a gem you should apply to every area of your life. If something isn't working change your strategy, don't quit. Try to pin point what's missing, add it to the equation and wah-lah, your idea might begin to blossom. If not, try something else. Test your ideas prior to launch and if it passes the test and you know it can work, then make it work.

As always, I love connecting with you guys. leave me a comment, share your thoughts and stop trying to man handle everything, start resting and delegating tasks, surround yourself with better influences, and if something isn't working don't quit, change your strategy.

Until next time,
Xoxo!

We Can Be As Great As God - The Power Of Your Mind

March 27, 2018

- Unknown
Click To Tweet

Everything that we see, and experience today started as a thought. McDonald's, Forbes, Facebook, and so on all started as simple ideas. Our mind is an incubator. We birth many ideas per day, but most of our ideas don't convert into anything.

Why do you think this happens? Why don't we nourish the potential of our great ideas? Before you read any further, comment below and let me hear your thoughts.

Most of the time, we talk ourselves out of opportunities to experience our own greatness. Now hear me, to everyone following some of our current media influencers and thinks "we can be as great as God" I'm going to have to burst your bubble right quick! God is in His own lane. To say that we're His equal and we are all powerful and all-knowing proves our need for Him to help us. His level of thinking, character, and wisdom far surpasses ours. We could never and will never be on His level, but in His wisdom, He doesn't force us to change our mind. So, if you want a clear understanding of this, just holla at Jesus and ask Him to help you and check out what the bible says about this because this doctrine of us being gods is attractive, but it's a lie. Xo!

When I use the term "greatness" I'm referring to us experiencing the fullness of what we're capable of producing, thinking, creating, etc. Greatness looks like us exploring and experiencing all our abilities. So, now that you've been reminded about the power of your thoughts and what you could turn them into what are you going to do? How will you guard your mind against negative thinking? Because if this is true and ideas produce products, services, and create habits, then you know the opposite is true too, right? If you continually concentrate on all the negative things around you and you continually talk to yourself negatively what kind of results do you think you'll produce? Remember our thoughts become our actions. Laptop's and computer's started as an idea. Internet and wi-fi also started as an idea. When you feel like life is amazing and full of opportunities, this feeling started as an idea. And for those of you feeling like life is overwhelming, this also started as an idea.

We're either developing positive thoughts that will be conducive to where we're going and helpful to everyone we connect with OR we're developing negative, unhealthy thoughts that stunt our growth and keep us insecure.

Right now, as you read this YOU have the potential to become a successful business owner, author, artist, producer, and leader. What will you do with it? Ya'll know that I'll never leave you without practical application so here are 2 things you could start doing today.

1. Be Selective About What You Believe

Every day subconsciously we're deciding between what's real and what's not. what's good and what's bad. what's true and what's a lie. But what is our standard based on? How do you decide what is fact? Does it have to be scientifically proven? Does it have to align with your political or religious views? For me I filter everything through what God says in the bible AND science because contrary to popular belief, they work hand-in-hand, together (we can talk about this in another post if you want *wink*). Determine your standard, then be selective about what you allow to influence you, aka be careful how you build on this foundation. Does your entertainment cultivate who you're becoming, or does it just make you feel good after a long day of work? Be selective about the thoughts you entertain. Do you intentionally place yourself with others that challenge and inspire you or are you surrounded by people that behave and think just like you? Remember, being around people that challenge you could mean reading books by an author you admire. Be selective about the thoughts you entertain.

2. Pay Attention To You Inner Voice

Doubting yourself and comparing your life to others will not, I repeat WILL NOT get you closer to where you're going. Whenever you feel negative thoughts trying to distract you, remind yourself that you're in your own lane. Your journey and progress is different from everyone around you. There is no one to be compared to because we're all focused on different goals

For example: Your goal might be to get 5k followers on Instagram and you know someone that already has this, so you compare yourself to them thinking their life is awesome, but in reality, having 5k followers on Instagram was never their goal. Their goal has always been acquiring more sales in their business. Does this make sense to you?

Pay attention to your inner voice (thoughts) and silence negative thought patterns with the truth. So in this example the truth would be your goal is attainable and the person you know with 5k followers is an example of a method you could use to attain the same results. They then become a source of inspiration not comparison.

Your life will only be as good as you make it, so let's create something great!
Until next time, Guard your thoughts

Just Start (Crushing Your Goals)

March 17, 2018

"A dream doesn't become reality
through magic; it takes sweat,
determination and hard work."
- Colin Powell

Right now, I want you to think about a goal you want to accomplish by the end of this year. Why is this goal worth the sacrifices you're going to have to make? Take 2 minutes to think about that. Now I want you to write that reason down in your business plan agenda, idea notebook, or the journal you write all your dreams in. Review this reason every time you feel discouraged, get distracted, or if you're just having a bad day and need some inspiration. By the time you finish reading this blog you're going to be ready to put in work and uncompromising about how you spend your time!

You have to remember, you were not fearfully and wonderfully made to come to earth and waste time worrying about whether you'll ever get ahead financially, or if your life will progress pass your current reality. I promise you, your life, goals, and your growth will go as far as you take it. You're here to offer humanity something that is necessary. God is intentional, and He creates everything with a purpose (including you). Don't waste your time believing lies like your situation is generational and you'll never break out of the cycle because the same thing happened to your parents, or your grandparents, or your great grandparents. None of that stuff matters. Your family history is not a prediction of how your life WILL turn out. Your current struggles are not a preview of how your life will be from now on. You decide the quality and outcome of your life. You are more important than you feel, AND your life will change as you change (internally). Start moving, start growing, start challenging yourself.

"Discipline is just choosing between
what you want now and what you want most."
- Unknown

Guys, don't neglect your mission. Right now, you might be able to think of one thousand reasons why you haven't started your business, or why you haven't been able to save money to develop yourself, or why your still in the same situation you were in 2 years ago but let me help you right quick. The reason why it's not done, is because it's not a priority. Ouch! Man, I felt that! Lol hear me out! I'm saying that because I've been there, and I've seen SO many people walk through this exact cycle! The thousand reasons that you're coming up with are ALL EXCUSES! Believe in yourself, know that you're able to change your life, and no one (not even your parents) is responsible for upgrading your life or helping you. Don't get it twisted (don't misunderstand me), people will come along and help you in your journey, most people in the world want to see others succeed, but no one owes you counsel, shared resources, or any form of help.

Accept the truth that your current reality reflects the choices you made. Yes, some things happened to you that were out of your control, but how did you respond to those things? All our choices make us who we are, and who we are which is also known as our character determines the outcome of our lives.

"You express the truth of your character
with the choice of your actions."
- Steve Maraboli

Woooou! This post is deeeeeeeeep! Guys, I wasn't even trying to go this deep like where is this coming from!? Lol, somebody needs to hear this! For all we know this could be for me, a few years down the line! Ha-ha *high five*. Alright! back to business. So, what I want you guys to do is 1. develop your self-awareness. Stop considering what others think of you, stop focusing on what other people are doing, and start studying yourself. How do you feel about your life? How do you feel about your mission? What has stopped you from getting things done in the past? How can you prevent that from happening again? What are you afraid of? Let's work towards overcoming some of these foundational issues and then 2. Start developing your self-confidence. Work on letting go of negative self-talk and begin to encourage yourself. Compliment yourself and become your own cheer leader. Believe in yourself again. Every time you make a mistake instead of accepting self-doubt or defeat, TRY AGAIN. When faced with a challenge whether in your personal life or in a business relationship instead of self-pity or feeling overwhelmed face it and work through the problem.

Taking these two very simple steps will make ALL the difference in your life because you're building your hope and focusing on things that matter. Soon what you expect (your goal(s)/target) will collide with your faith and hope, then boom! fireworks will ignite, and you'll become your own hero.

Until next time!

How This All Got Started (Why I Started Blogging)

March 15, 2018

"The only impossible journey is the one you never begin"
- Tony Robbins

So, this past Tuesday, March 13th marked the 3-month birthday of my blog! Yaaasss! It's only been 3 months, but baby! Things are quickly progressing. Thanks to you guys, in 3 months I've been able to connect with over 2,600 people around the world, steadily build a community of like-minded budding entrepreneurs and go-getters, be inspired by you all, and enjoy the things your creating and doing because of the person you're becoming. To be honest, creating a blog to share my experiences and things that I'm learning throughout my journey isn't something that I had planned. I knew I had a thing for words. I enjoy scanning through the dictionary for new words, and reading different types of books, but a writer? Not in my wildest dreams. A song writer? Possibly, but a blogger? *Smh* Nah! Thank you for what you've turned this blog into. Let me tell you why I even started this...

Prior to the arrival of my second daughter my eldest was on a pretty solid routine. After giving birth I was a mess and needed some motivation to balance my ambition with my responsibilities (Read my first blog here). I was getting frustrated with myself because I felt like I didn't have enough time in the day to get the ball rolling for a business idea I had. Truth is, I had POOR TIME MANAGEMENT skills. Yes, I was running on little to no sleep and having 2 kids was a HUGE difference from taking care of one, but I could've had an easier transition.

Out of being hopeful and looking for some inspiration I went online to find "Mompreneurs" that were killing it, so I could glean from their wisdom and learn how to be a boss mom. I found nothing that could sustain me. After searching far and wide on the internet I thought, "I can't be the only boss mom, on parental leave looking for practical life management tools right now!" Instead of crying about the lack of support online, within seconds I started creating my blog. I did no research, consulted NO ONE, and didn't know anything about web design or blogging. I just went for it.

Starting this blog wasn't only a way for me to help and connect with other mompreneur's. It allowed me to connect with go-getters and entrepreneur's and people who just wanted a push in the right direction. This blog provided a new community of people that wanted to challenge each other and become better versions of themselves. Achieving goals is great, but who are we becoming? How is our character improving? How is our heart doing? Are we chasing goals with the right motives? Or are we becoming too focused on ourselves and what we want? This blog became an open place for me to share my goals without judgement in hopes to inspire you.

Finally, my last reason for starting this blog is because I believe in living completely free from outside influences. We can never allow another person's perception of us to dictate what we do and who we become. I believe in living truly free from trying to impress others or trying to prove ourselves. Starting a blog was my way of saying to myself “get out of your own way Theresa. You are the only hindrance to your progress. Freely decide and do what you want.”

I guarantee you, most people that know me personally probably have never dreamed of me being a writer (except my husband, he caught the vision before I did haha!), but now people get excited to read my posts. Don't limit yourself and never under estimate what your capable of. Thanks again for being apart of this community! I love running with you guys.

Until next time,
Xoxo!

What Is Stopping You From Getting Started?

March 10, 2018

"The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing"
- Walt Disney

If you have at least one goal that has been following you for the last year and you have yet to get started say "I!". Well, What's stopping you? I'll be honest, I've been there. I carried my music goals around with me for YEARS! Even after acquiring more than enough  experience, educational training, support from some of the best mentors in the industry, and investing in vocal lessons like crazy, I STILL procrastinated! Your reason for not starting might be different than mine, but ultimately the root is fear.

- Unknown
Click To Tweet

Fear is more than a feeling. If you entertain it in your thoughts, it'll try to order your steps. It'll plant seeds in your mind like "you don't know what you're doing. Don't waste your time. Why put so much effort into something that doesn't guarantee success?, you're going to embarrass yourself." Well, what I say to that is, the only way to know whether something will work for you or not is to believe in myself, trust God, and do it. I know that if I continually plant seeds (work towards something specific), in due time I will reap a bountiful harvest. Don't limit yourself to think in "what if" terms. Turn your "what if" into "when this happens". Challenge yourself, learn new things, and change your seeds if your strategy isn't working, but never stop planting.

"The temporary seduction of fear
will rob you of the future you
were born to create."
- Tee Forever

Can I tell you a secret? You will never be 100% ready. It doesn't matter how many experts pour into you, how many books you read, or how much training/experience you have. Do you think I was 100% ready when I got married? Nope! Do you think I was super confident and prepared when I had my first child? Smh, not even close! How about when I started my blog? Do you think I did a ton of research on blogging and I was ready to start growing my email list? Lol. I prepared as much as I could, then I had to trust myself and trust that God has my back (which He always does) and wah-lah! Here I am, and things have been slowly, but steadily moving in the right direction.

Do everything you can possibly think of to prepare. After acquiring all you need get started right away. Don't give yourself time to doubt yourself or what your about to do. Just go. Experiment with the knowledge you have. Take note of what works well for you and what you need to changeDon't over think, over prepare, or over consult. This will only leave you with more questions than answers. Prepare as much as you can for your first step. After making the step, explore the land, build a few trees and then move onto the next step. Repeat the process until you hit your target.

Right now I want you to think about the goal you've been carrying around with you for over a year. How do you feel when you think about it? Are you excited? Are you nervous? Maybe anxious? Just relax. Take a deep breathe and consider the first steps you would need to take to get the ball rolling. Is there anyone that you know right now, that could help you? Do you have any of the necessary resources needed to start? If you said "no" to either of these I want to challenge you.

I know without a doubt that you definitely know at least one person that can help you get started. They can do something as basic as hold you accountable and help you maintain your focus. Although this is simple, it's a BIG deal! Having accountability is like having a personal coach. They'll help whip you into shape and remind you of your purpose, your reason for wanting to achieve the goal, and the wonderful benefits you'll reap from your labor. They'll also notice things you've grown accustom to like laziness in some areas, lack of consistency, not having clear steps, cycles and routines that are holding you back, etc. Having an extra pair of eyes looking in will help you see clearly.

Another tool you have to get started is built inside of you. Your brain! It's full of creative idea's, divine strategies, and endless possibilities. Use it to imagine what you want to create. Break it down into long and short term goals meaning, write down the first 3 things you need to do to get started. Build a plan and stick to it. Having accountability, plus using your natural resource (your brain) is easy peasy! None of us have an excuse for our lack of progress this year. Getting started isn't as hard as you thought!

"You don't need to have it all figured out
before you start. You just need to start."
- Tee Forever

Let go of trying to have all the answers and all the right moves. Make the best decisions you can. When you fall, get up and keep it moving. Don't get distracted thinking about what people will say or think. Live your life. Be intentional about maximizing your time here on earth and start killing it! I encourage you to start your business, go out and make mistakes, start singing in public, dance and act a fool, who cares! Get comfortable being uncomfortable and enjoy it! Fear God and enjoy life!
Until next time,

Practical Steps To Getting Started

"As a rule, we find what we look for; we achieve what we get ready for."
- James Cash Penney

In my last post we talked about what could be stopping you from starting your business, album, or whatever your project is (Click here to read now). We also touched on the fact that you're already prepared, and you have some of the basic, foundational requirements to get started. Today, let's talk about practical ways you can ACTUALLY GET STARTED NOW!

What I like to do when I'm starting a new project is GET ORGANIZED! This is the bedrock for your house. If you fail to organize yourself properly you'll feel overwhelmed and all over the map. Organization for every industry looks different, but here are some solid things you can apply regardless of your industry.

1. Goals. What is your expected result from all the effort your putting in. This is not about potential income. For a musician the expected result might be to create music that their target audience can connect with and make their anthem when they feel happy, sad, angry, etc. For an author the expected result could be writing a book that clearly defines the topic of their choice and walks the reader step-by-step to their desired result(s). Whatever your project is, think of your expected result(s) as how you want your audience to feel and the action steps they'll be able to take after receiving your product or service.

 2. Establish reasonable deadlines for each aspect of your project. Breakdown your project into sub-divisions. Create a timeline and estimate a time frame for each section to be complete. Once you start working you may notice that some of your deadlines have to be extended and that's okay. It's better to have deadlines in place and have to extend them, than to have no deadlines and spend 4 months working on something that could've been done in 2 months if you had focused your time on getting it done.

"Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment"
- Jim Rohn

I wish there was a way around it, but the truth is somebody must do the work! Lol. Without self-discipline you're wasting your time. Create your plan and then WORK YOUR PLAN! A plan gives you clear steps to take daily so when you wake up you already know what to focus on and where to exert the most energy. Discipline is the follow through on things you know you need to do.

3. Follow a to-do list and NEVER deviate from it. Your to-do list must include 3 things that will automatically bring you closer to finishing your project if you do them daily.

4. Commit to your schedule/routine. Of course, life can be unpredictable at times so, if faced with an emergency obviously, attend to it and take care of your responsibilities. My only caution is, don't make a habit of being distracted and calling everything an emergency. An emergency is something that requires your immediate attention and can't be postponed. Talking to your friend about what happened at the Grammy's last night during work time is not an emergency, chilling with people you haven't seen in months DURING WORK TIME is not an emergency. Prioritize your work and focus. Include time in your schedule for rest and leisure activities but commit to your project and know that work time is work time.

"Simply learn as you go."
- Tee Forever

Evaluate your progress. Review and repeat what is working for you and discard what doesn't.

5. Before you release any project, even if you're offering a service, find out how your target audience feels about your brand. Do they trust you? Are they excited to hear from you? Do they even know who you are? If they don't know you, you need to work on building a relationship with your audience.

6. What is the quality of the work your producing? Your product or service reflects who you are and what you represent as a brand. Is your message clear? Are you giving your audience an accurate picture of what you have to offer and what your values are?

There's a lot to consider when releasing a project, but it's not as complicated as you think. Keep it simple, stay true to your values, and work until you reach your desired outcome. Once you complete your first step, move up to the next one. Comment below and share what has stopped you from getting started in the past! I can't wait to talk to you.

Until next time!

Self Discipline: Go Big Or Go Home

March 1, 2018

"With self-discipline
most anything is possible"
- Theodore Roosevelt

This month's challenge has me pumped! Ha-ha! This is going to be so good! Lol, I'm smiling from the inside out right now. Self-discipline is usually one of the HARDEST characteristics to establish. It takes deliberate focus, constant effort, and obviously discipline. I like to think of self-discipline as a self-imposed structure or routine, that we create for ourselves, with the purpose of reaching a clear target. Although sometimes perceived as a curse, self-discipline is the greatest gift you could give yourself.

This month instead of dreaming, hoping, and wishing we had the discipline to get things done, LET'S DO IT! I know you guys are ready! We've talked about getting rid of complaining, how to practically focus and start developing your potential, as well as, how to stop making excuses. So, we have no problem. We're ready, right?! Lol, if only it were that easy.

"By constant self-discipline & self-control
you can develop greatness of character."
- Grenville Kleiser

Talking about something is not the same as practicing it. Self-discipline converts our vision into reality. Nothing great ever comes without sacrifice. We know this! We know we'll never get results without exerting mental and physical effort. When we strive to reach a goal, we're committing to stretching ourselves. We're committing to our personal growth.

Self-discipline is telling yourself "right now I have to finish step A, so that in 1 year from now, 6 months from now, or even by next week I can start step B" (depending on the type of goal you've set). In setting this standard for yourself you're also committing to better time management and a life of less distractions.

In establishing self-discipline it's best to create a daily routine. A routine is like an automatic system. If you create a system that takes you one step closer to your goal every day, then you know without a doubt that in a few weeks, months, or a year, you will hit your target and possibly surpass it. If you pursue healthy routines, you'll enjoy the fruits of that lifestyle. The same principle applies if you pursue a less productive routine. Right now, you might think "I'm not pursuing either", but here's the truth. Neutral is not a position in this game. The fact is, you've already created a daily routine whether you're aware or not. Unawareness of your routine confirms that

  • You aren't living at your highest potential
  • You have a gold mine to discover within yourself (gifts, talents, skills, etc.)

So, here's what we're going to do! This month I challenge you to take baby steps to start strengthening your self-discipline muscles. How you choose to do this is completely up to you. I suggest cultivating a baby step that aligns with a goal you have for April or the end of 2018.

Here's an example, let's say your goal is to be healthier. You could start with something as small as drinking water every morning before you eat your first meal. If your goal is to get a better understanding of your craft, your focus for next month can include 15 mins, 30 mins, or 1 hour of doing research, gaining hands on experience through volunteering, or simple developing on your skills/craft.

My personal goal for next month is to start my online business (Whoop wooou! Ya'll better pray for me! lol). My baby step is to work every day for an hour to climb the ladder until I hit completion.

Now, if you don't know this, I'm a wife with 2 babies under 2 (time consuming). I'm a singer so I attend 2-3-hour rehearsals a few times a week (time consuming). I'm also a part of a few other things that include a lot of meetings and projects that demand my time. All of that to say, with all these demands on my time and attention I could have a thousand reasons why I won't get it done by next month, but the truth is, if I discipline myself, manage my time better, and really minimize distractions, then on Sunday, April 1, 2018 we will celebrate the launch of my online business!

I share this to motivate and inspire you to push yourself and really commit to your baby step(s). Being consistent with this will produce momentum that will spill over into other areas of your life. You might be a little wobbly in the beginning, but that's okay. It's to be expected. We're aiming for long-term growth

If you fall off the wagon one day, get back on it the next! We won't slow down or stop because we have a bad experience or make mistakes. If you commit to your baby step(s) every day, in two-weeks minimum, you'll start to see that you think differently, and you feel a stronger sense of self-confidence.

I believe that we can do it. Let's stop becoming, and start being.
